In the past year I've managed to take my "doodles" and make them into card sets. I've put them in an art shop, given them to friends and house for gifts and even put them in a museum gift shop.
I somehow just come up with wild designs when I'm not well concentrating or planning on it. I didn't know that whatever would find it lively but my husband once in a while would find one on a junk mail envelope or a random piece of paper and would tell me it was pretty neat looking. So, I started retention my sketch book and pen and ink pens nearby for those occasions when I would keep my hands busy unintentionally while speaking on the phone or just mental about something.
Roller Skates Shops
So I started organizing them into mini-series. I have ended up with butterflies, flowers, hats, dogs, fish, costumed ladies, etc...They sound commonplace but I put random designs in each of the petals of the flowers, wispy and often deliberately too big of accents on the hats with bugs included, into the shape of whichever breed of dog I choose I put swirls, attractive patterns and random bold designs the same with the fish. The ladies that I draw can end up with striped thigh-highs and boas on or roller-skates and knee-high tube socks or even a towel and towel-wrapped head dress; the butterflies have themed pictures within its wings.
I scan those images in and print them on 5" x 6-7/8" deckle-edged cards (I use a Strathmore). I take it one step further and unblemished a containers that is fit to sell the card sets. I have created a bag topper with a thumbnail of each image I choose for the set of cards on the top and a brief bio about myself. I sometimes also stamp the flap of the envelopes with a establish relevant to that series of doodle cards. I also take a thin, colored, satin ribbon and tie the 4 cards and 4 envelopes together. Most often I will thread pewter and gemstone beads onto the two ends of the ribbon which is to be used as a bookmark once the cards have been untied. I went to a plastic and vinyl furnish enterprise and purchased a bundle of clear plastic bags appropriately sized to the size of the cards. It all comes together quite neatly and appealing.
I didn't know that my "doodles" would appeal to whatever but now that I know I find myself wanting to doodle anytime I am preoccupied or Not. If you want a beginning point for exposing an artistic expression of yours without going into a huge project, this is perfect.
